Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt first impressions

Look what Gainax brought us for the Fall season! A brand new series that just aired in Japan in October, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt! A very out of the ordinary looking show that has caught my eye. It looked more of a Western Cartoon then a Gainax anime when it caught my attention. Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi who directed Gurren Lagann and Dead Leaves.



So far the story is about two Angels from Heaven who are fighting the Ghosts. In exchange of Heaven's coins dropped from them from specific Ghosts. We don't really know what they did to fall from Heaven or why they need these coins. But we can probably guess why?

The characters of this series seem very Obscene as most describe it and with an Attitude to me. The Main characters Panty who is a Sex obsessed Blonde bombshell Angel who loves men and shoots up ghosts with her Magical panties (Obvious how they got their names) that turns into a gun. Stocking who is a Gothic Lolita who enjoys eating sweets and uses her stockings into a Magical Katana. The characters are givin some unique appeal and some style to each of them. We'll see more how they interact more in the series. But as shown they have some funny and Narcissistic attitude towards them.








Looking at the art style of the anime It seems to take the same art style as Dead Leaves. Which has a pretty much Western like appeal but with some Anime chibi elements and such. It has some really cool CGI, Cut outs and sometimes funny live green screen features in it. To me it seems to me like some 70's American crime movie with some Groove, violence and sex appeal to it.

The plot is pretty simple and funny with some crude humor in it. In the first two episodes. The girls face a giant Turd Monster and Possessed Demon car which is pretty hilarious. They run some giant battles and cop chases against a foe unknown, which reminds me a bit of the movie Dogma. The battles was pretty actioned packed and enjoyable. Especially in the second one.

I found it pretty funny and enjoyable many people just don't really get the humor. It seems like a American blockbuster action film knock off which I find pretty funny. I'll maybe check more this out sometime later.

The Anime is set up as a 26 episodes that is about 11-12 minutes long in 13 blocks. Which is not so bad... As I read from Newtype Magazine. So we got some more time to enjoy this anime for awhile!
